The International Space Station was begun in November 1998. ISS was built by fifteen countries. The first part of ISS was launched in 1998 by extra-Vehicular activity (EVA) and astronauts installed each element used spacewalk. In 2000 a first full team occupied the ISS which orbits the earth at an altitude about 250 miles (400 kilometers).
This ISS will be function as a laboratory, observatory, and workshop. The astronauts and the researches will live and work in the modules (cylinder section). ISS has eight large modules and each modules launched separately from the earth. Each module was connected by astronauts in the space. Eight solar panel will supply the electrical needs in the ISS. The panels mount on a metal framework 360 feet long.
Most of the ISS modules and equipments were provided by US and Russia. Canada contributed also with the mobile robot arm which is launched in 2001. Other country also contributed to provide the equipment include Japan, Brazil, European Space Agency (ESA).
Mission of ISS crew include scientist are to operate the laboratory equipment in the space, biological research and also the medical research.
